Delhi Election Results 2015 - Ambedkar Nagar

Ambedkar Nagar is reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC). Ajay Dutt (AAP) has won the Assembly election 2015, got 6,6632 votes against Ashok Kumar of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who has 2,4172 votes.

Votes polled on Feb 7 and the results was announced on Feb 10, 2015.

Ashok Kumar, is the incumbent MLA from Ambedkar Nagar assembly constituency which he won in 2013 by defeating his nearest BJP rival Khushi Ram Chunar by a margin of 11670 votes. While Ashok Kumar, who contested on the ticket of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), polled votes, Khushi Ram received 24569 votes.

Sitting Congress MLA Prem Singh, who had won all the elections to the seat since the creation of Delhi legislative assembly in 1993, had to be satisfied with the third position with 19753 votes and was followed by Ghan Shyam Dass of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) with 3250 votes. In the previous assembly elections held in 2008, the BSP candidate Prahlad Kumar Malviya had polled 12362 votes.

Ambedkar Nagar is one of the twelve assembly constituencies in Delhi which are reserved for the candidates belonging to Scheduled castes. Of these the AAP had won nine seats whereas the BJP and the Congress won in two seats and one seat respectively,

In the first elections to the Delhi Legislative Assembly in 1993, Prem Singh won the Ambedkar Nagar assembly seat by defeating Rajender Kumar Sonker of BJP by a margin of 8565 votes. While Prem Singh received 19621 votes, the BJP candidate got 11056 votes. In the next general assembly elections, Ambedkar Nagar seat went once again to Prem Singh who defeated the BJP candidate Jagdish Bharti by 18008 votes. Prem Singh received 27670 votes and Jagdish Bharti got 9662 votes.

In 2003, Prem Singh won the seat once again by defeating Suresh Chand of the BJP by 8361 votes. In that election, Prem Singh got 25880 and Suresh Chand secured 17519 votes. In the next assembly polls in Delhi, Prem Singh won the Ambedkar Nagar assembly constituency for fourth straight time. BJP candidate Suresh Chand was the runner up who secured 25630 as against Prem Singh's 30467 votes.

Ambedkar Nagar is one of the ten assembly constituencies that unite to form the Lok Sabha constituency of East Delhi which is currently represented by Ramesh Bidhuri of the BJP who claimed the seat by defeating his nearest AAP rival Devender Sehrawat in the last parliamentary elections in 2014.
