Delhi Election Results 2015 - Ballimaran

Ballimaran is one of the 70 assembly constituencies of Delhi. Imran Hussain (AAP) has won the Assembly election 2015, got 5,7118 votes against Shayam Lal Morwal of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who has got 2,3241 votes.

Votes polled on Feb 7 and the results was announced on Feb 10, 2015.

Ballimaran is one of the eight assembly seats which had elected Congress MLAs to the legislative assembly of Delhi in 2013. Since the formation of Delhi legislative assembly in 1993, this assembly seat has been electing former Congress Minister Haroon Yusuf who retained it in 2013 by defeating Moti Lal Sodhi of the BJP by a margin of 8,093 votes.

In the last assembly elections held in 2013, Haroon Yusuf, who had won the Ballimaran seat in 1993, 1998, 2003, 2008 and 2013, polled 32105 votes, the BJP candidate received 24012 votes and was closely followed by Imran Hussain of the Bahujan Samaj Party with 16,267 votes.

Farhana Anjum, who contested on the ticket of the Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was placed fourth with 13,103 votes. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which made a spectacular debut in the last assembly elections, by wining 28 seats, had formed the government in Delhi which lasted for 49 days.

In the penultimate assembly elections held in 2008, the runner-up was once again Moti Lal Sodhi who lost to Haroon Yusuf by a margin of 6,237 votes.

As said earlier, in the first elections to Delhi legislative assembly in 1993, Ballimaran went in favour of Haroon Yusuf who had defeated his nearest BJP rival Vishambhar Dutt Sharma by a margin of 1491 votes. In the next elections, Haroon Yusuf emerged victorious by defeating Vishambhar Dutt Sharma once again by an impressive margin of 23843.

In the third Delhi assembly elections held in 2003, Haroon Yusuf won by trouncing Satish Chand Jain, who entered the fray as a candidate, by a margin of 22591 votes. Raj Kishore Gupta of the BJP came third with 5584 votes.

Ballimaran is one of the ten assembly constituencies that combine to form the parliamentary constituency of Chandni Chowk which is currently represented by Dr. Harsh Vardhan of the BJP who won the seat by defeating his nearest AAP rival Ashutosh by a margin of 1,36,320 votes in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. The sitting Congress MP Kapil Sibal was relegated to third place. In 2013, Dr. Harsh Vardhan had won the Krishna Nagar assembly seat for the fifth time in a row.
