Delhi Election Results 2015 - Jangpura

Praveen Kumar (AAP ) Maninder Singh Dhir (BJP )

Jangpura is one of the 70 assembly constituencies of Delhi. Praveen Kumar (AAP) has won the Assembly election 2015, got 43,927 votes against Maninder Singh Dhir of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who has got 23,477 votes.

Votes polled on Feb 7 and the results was announced on Feb 10, 2015.

The winning spree of the Congress in the Jangpura assembly constituency since the creation of the Delhi legislative assembly in 1993 was broken when in 2013 it had elected the Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Maninder Singh Dhir who defeated his nearest rival and the sitting Congress MLA Tarvinder Singh Marwah by a margin of 1744 votes.

While Maninder Singh Dhir, who has recently joined the BJP, polled 29701 votes, the three- time Congress MLA Tarvinder Singh Marwah secured 27957 votes and was followed by Pankaj Jain of the BJP who received 18978 votes.

Earlier Tarvinder Singh Marwah made a hat-trick of wins in 2008 when he emerged victorious from the seat by defeating Manjinder Singh Sirsa of the BJP by a margin of 13951 votes. Manjinder Singh Sirsa had won the Rajouri Garden seat in 2013 on the ticket of the Shiromani Akali Dal, an ally of the BJP.

In the third general assembly elections to Delhi held in 2003, Tarvinder Singh Marwah claimed the Jangpura seat by trouncing Kuldeep Singh Bhogal of the BJP by 20227votes. In the previous assembly elections in 1998, which resulted in the formation of Sheila Dixit led Congress government in Delhi, Marwah became the winner of the seat by dint of his win over the BJP nominee Bir Bahadur by a margin of 11919 votes.

In the first elections to the Delhi legislative assembly held in 1993, which resulted in the installation of the BJP government headed by Madan Lal Khurana, the Jangpura assembly went in favour of Jag Parvesh Chandra of the Congress who polled 24200 votes to defeat the BJP candidate Ram Lal Verma by a margin of 2491 votes. While Jag Parvesh Chandra received 24200 votes, the BJP nominee manage to garner 21709 votes.

Jangpura is one of the ten assembly constituencies that unite to form the parliamentary constituency of East Delhi which is currently represented by Maheish Girri of the BJP who won the seat by defeating his nearest AAP rival Rajmohan Gandhi by a margin of 1,90,463 votes in the last Lok Sabha elections in 2014. The incumbent Congress MP Sandeep Dikshit slipped into the third position.
