Delhi Election Results 2015 - Kalkaji

Avtar Singh Kalkaji (AAP ) Harmeet Singh Kalka (BJP )

Kalkaji is is one of the 70 assembly constituencies of Delhi. Avtar Singh Kalkaji (AAP) has won the Assembly election 2015, got 55,104 votes against Harmeet Singh Kalka of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who has 35,335 votes.

Votes polled on Feb 7 and the results was announced on Feb 10, 2015.

Harmeet Singh of the BJP is the incumbent MLA from Kalkaji assembly seat which he won in 2013 by defeating his nearest rival Dharambir Singh of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) by a simple margin of 2044 votes. While Harmeet Singh polled 30683 votes, the AAP nominee received 28639 votes.

Former Congress minister Subhash Chopra, who had been representing the constituency since 1998, slipped to the third position with 25787 votes and was followed by Independent candidate Dharmender Kumar who received 3092 votes.

Ajay Kr Aggarwal, who entered the fray as a candidate of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), came a distant fifth with only 1235 votes. Whereas former UP CM Mayawati led BSP drew a blank in 2013 assembly polls to Delhi, in the previous assembly elections held in 2008, the party had won two seats.

In 2008, Kalkaji, one of the seventy assembly seats, was won by Subhash Chopra third time in a row by defeating the BJP candidate Jai Gopal Abrol by a margin of 13389 votes. While 38360 votes were polled in favour of Subhash Chopra, the BJP nominee secured 24971 votes.

In the previous assembly elections in 2003 elections of Delhi Legislative assembly, Subhash Chopra had claimed the seat for the Congress by defeating former BJP MLA Purnima Sethi by a margin of 17644 votes. In 1998 assembly polls, which inaugurated the Sheila Dixit government in Delhi, Kalkaji went in favour of Subhash Chopra who emerged victorious by defeating the sitting BJP legislator Purnima Sethi by a margin of 5244 votes.

Earlier Purnima Sethi was the winner of the Kalkaji assembly seat in the first elections to the Delhi legislative assembly held in 1993. He won the seat by defeating Subhash Chopra by a margin of just 4012 votes.

Kalkaji is one of the ten assembly constituencies that unite to form the parliamentary constituency of East Delhi which is currently represented by Ramesh Bidhuri of the BJP who won the seat by defeating his nearest AAP rival Devender Sehrawat by a margin of 1,07,000 votes in the last Lok Sabha elections in 2014.
