Delhi Election Results 2015 - Kirari

Winner Runnerup
Rituraj Govind (AAP) Anil Jha (BJP )

Kirari is one of the 70 assembly constituencies of Delhi. Rituraj Govind (AAP) has won the Assembly election 2015, got 97,727 votes against Anil Jha of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who has 52,555 votes.

Votes polled on Feb 7 and the results was announced on Feb 10, 2015.

Kirari , one of the seventy constituencies in Delhi, is currently held by Anil Jha of the BJP who retained it in 2013 by trouncing his nearest rival Rajan Prakash of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) by a whopping margin of 48,526 votes in 2013 general assembly polls to Delhi legislative assembly. In a one sided affair, while Anil Jha, a former DUSU president, polled 72,283 votes, the AAP candidate received 23,757 votes and was followed by the Congress nominee with 18,515 votes.

Pushp Raj, who contested on the ticket of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), came fourth with 16,922 votes. The Mayawati led BSP had won two seats in the 2008 assembly elections in Delhi. The party does not have any member in the Delhi legislative assembly which was recently dissolved paving the way of new elections to be held in 2015.

Anil Jha's victory margin was the highest in 2013 Delhi assembly polls. While the BJP claimed 31 seats and its ally Shiromani Akali Dal emerged victorious from one assembly constituency, the Congress, which has won 43 seats in 2008, was left in 2013 with only 8 seats. The AAP made a spectacular debut by winning 28 seats. The Janata Dal (United) won one seat when its candidate Shoaib Iqbal was elected from the Matia Mahal assembly constituency. The remaining seat of Mundka was won by Rambir Shokeen, who contested as an Independent.

In 2008, Kirari , which has a strong presence of Biharis, was won by Anil Jha by a margin of 9,524 votes. In that election, he had polled 30,005 votes to defeat his nearest rival Pushpraj of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). The Congress member Shabnam came third with 15,472 votes.

Kirari is one of the ten assembly constituencies which come together to create of reserved parliamentary constituency of North West Delhi which is currently represented by Udit Raj of the BJP who won the seat by trouncing his nearest AAP rival and former AAP minister in the Delhi government, Rakhi Birla, by a margin of 1, 06,802 votes in April-May Lok Sabha elections in 2014. Udit Raj is the founder of the erstwhile Indian Justice Party which merged with the BJP.
