Kamruddin, who contested on the ticket of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) came third with 10018 votes. In 2003, Harsh Vardhan had trounced Narinder Kumar of the Congress by a handsome margin of 14073 votes.

In the first elections to the Delhi legislative assembly held in 1993, which resulted in the formation of the BJP government headed by Madan Lal Khurana, the Krishna Nagar assembly seat went in favour of Harsh Vardhan who defeated Congress nominee Balvinder Singh by a margin of 12419 votes. In the next election to the seat, Harsh Vardhan trounced S.N.Misra of the Congress by 6610 votes.

Krishna Nagar assembly constituency is one of the ten assembly constituencies that unite to form the parliamentary constituency of East Delhi which is currently represented by Maheish Girri of the BJP who won the seat by defeating his nearest AAP rival Rajmohan Gandhi by 1,90,463 votes in the last Lok Sabha elections in 2014.
