Delhi Election Results 2015 - Madipur

Madipur is one of the 70 assembly constituencies of Delhi it is Reserved for Scheduled Castes. Girish Soni (AAP) has won the Assembly election 2015, got 66,571 votes against Raj Kumar of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who has 37,184 votes.

Votes polled on Feb 7 and the results was announced on Feb 10, 2015.

Former Delhi minister Girish Soni, who has again been fielded by the Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to contest the Madipur assembly seat in the upcoming Delhi assembly elections in 2015, is the incumbent MLA from the constituency. In the last assembly polls in 2013, Girish Soni polled 36,393 to win the seat by defeating his nearest BJP rival Kailash Sankla by a margin of 1,103 votes.

The then sitting Congress MLA, Mala Ram Gangwal, who had been representing the constituency since 1998, was relegated to the third position with 25,545 votes. Mishri Lal Khorwal, who entered the fray as a candidate of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), came a distant fourth with just 2,169 votes. In the previous assembly elections, the party nominee Mohan Lal came third with 9,337 votes. While former UP CM Mayawati led BSP drew a blank in 2013 assembly polls to Delhi, in 2008, the party had won two seats.

In 2008, Madipur, one of the seventy assembly seats in Delhi, was won by Mala Ram Gangwal for the third time in a row by defeating his nearest rival Kailash Sankla of the BJP by a margin of 8,532 votes. While 40,698 votes were polled in favour of Mala Ram Gangwal, the BJP nominee secured 32,166 votes.

In 2003 elections of Delhi Legislative assembly, Mala Ram Gangwal had claimed the seat for the Congress by a margin of 6,339 votes. In 1998 assembly polls, which inaugurated the Sheila Dixit government in Delhi, Madipur Assembly seat went in favour of Mala Ram Gangwal who emerged victorious by defeating the BJP candidate Laxman Singh Atal by a good margin of 8,096 votes.

In the first elections to the Delhi legislative assembly held in 1993, which resulted in the formation of the BJP government headed by Madan Lal Khurana, Madipur was won by the BJP whose candidate Swarup Chand Rajan polled 28,861 votes to defeat Mala Ram Gangwal by 4,875 votes.

Madipur is one of the ten assembly constituencies that unite to form the parliamentary constituency of West Delhi which is currently represented by Parvesh Verma of the BJP who won the seat by defeating his nearest AAP rival Jarnail Singh by a huge margin of 2,68,586 votes in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
