Delhi Election Results 2015 - Mundka

Sukhvir Singh (AAP) Azad Singh (BJP)

Mundka is one of the 70 assembly constituencies of Delhi. Sukhvir Singh (AAP) has won the Assembly election 2015, got 94,206 votes against Azad Singh of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) who has 53,380 votes.

Votes polled on Feb 7 and the results was announced on Feb 10, 2015.

Rambir Shokeen is the incumbent MLA from the Mundka assembly seat which he won in 2013 by defeating his nearest rival Azad Singh of the BJP by a comfortable margin of 7,134 votes.

In that election to the Mundka constituency, which came into being before the 2008 general assembly polls following the recommendation of the delimitation commission, Rambir Shokeen polled 52,564 votes.

Azad Singh, former North Delhi mayor and brother of former BJP Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma, received 45,430 votes and was followed by Krishan Kumar of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) who got 23,872 votes.

Naresh Kumar, who entered the fray as a nominee of the Congress, was relegated to the fourth position with 19,157 votes. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate, Gurcharan Singh, was relegated to the sixth place with 2,830 votes.

In the previous assembly elections held in 2008, the party's candidate, Jasbir, had come third by securing 12,382 votes. The BSP had won two seats in those assembly elections in Delhi. The party does not have any member in the Delhi legislative assembly which was recently dissolved paving the way of new elections to be held in 2015.

Azad Singh was given ticket for Mundka assembly seat in place of the sitting Mundka MLA, Manoj Kumar Shokeen, who was made to contest from Nangloi Jat. Manoj Kumar Shokeen won the Nangloi Jat seat by defeating Dr. Bijender Singh of the Congress by a margin of 11015 votes.

In 2008, Manoj Kumar Shokeen had won the Jat dominated Mundka assembly seat by defeating Prem Chander Kaushik of the Congress by a margin of 14,897 votes. In that election Manoj Shokeen polled 57449 votes, the Congress candidate received 46434 votes.

Mundka is one of the ten assembly constituencies which come together to create of reserved parliamentary constituency of North West Delhi which is currently represented by Udit Raj of the BJP who won the seat by trouncing his nearest AAP rival and former AAP minister in the Delhi government, Rakhi Birla, by a margin of 1, 06,802 votes in April-May Lok Sabha elections in 2014. Udit Raj is the founder of the erstwhile Indian Justice Party which merged with the BJP.
