Delhi Election Results 2015 - Rajouri Garden

Winner Runnerup
Jarnail Singh (AAP ) Manjinder Singh Sirsa (SAD )

Rajouri Garden is one of the 70 assembly constituencies of Delhi. Jarnail Singh (AAP) has won the Assembly election 2015, got 54,916 votes against Manjinder Singh Sirsa of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) who has 44,880 votes.

Votes polled on Feb 7 and the results was announced on Feb 10, 2015.

Majinder Singh Sirsa of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) is the incumbent MLA from Rajouri Garden which he won in 2013 by defeating Dhanwanti Chandela, wife of sitting Congress MLA Dyanand Chandila by a margin of 11,008 votes. While Majinder Singh Sirsa polled 41,721 votes, Dhanwanti Chandela received 30,713 votes and was followed by Prit Pal Singh of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) with 17,022 votes.

In 2013 assembly elections, Dyanand Chandila was denied ticket by the Congress because he was convicted in a murder case. Rajouri Garden was allotted to the SAD under the seat sharing agreement with the BJP.

In 2008, Dyanand Chandila had defeated Avtar Singh Hit of SAD (M) by a razor-thin margin of 46 votes. In the previous assembly elections held in 2003 he had emerged victorious from the erstwhile Vishnu Garden assembly seat on the ticket of the BJP by defeating the sitting Congress MLA Mahender Singh Sathi by a margin of 3260 votes. Vishnu Garden assembly constituency ceased to exist before the 2008 Delhi general assembly polls following the recommendation of the Delimitation commission. Mahender Singh Sathi was the winner of the Vishnu Garden seat in 1993 and 1998. Dyanand Chandila had contested the Vishnu Garden seat in 1998 as a candidate of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM).

In the 2004 bye-election to the Rajouri Garden seat, Ramesh Lamba of the Congress defeated Ramesh Khanna of the BJP. The byepoll was necessitated due the resignation of the sitting Congress MLA Ajay Maken who was elected to the Lok Sabha. Ajay Maken had won the seat three times in a row (1993, 1998 and 2003).

In 2008, Ramesh Lamba was defeated by Harsharan Singh Balli of the BJP by a massive margin of 28758 votes from the Hari Nagar constituency. In 2013 Harsharan Singh Balli contested the seat on the ticket of the Congress and finished third.

Rajouri Garden is one of the ten assembly constituencies that unite to form the parliamentary constituency of West Delhi which is currently represented by Parvesh Verma of the BJP who won the seat by defeating his nearest AAP rival Jarnail Singh by a huge margin of 2,68,586 votes in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
