Delhi Election Results 2015 - Sangam Vihar

Dinesh Mohaniya (AAP ) Shiv Charan Lal Gupta (BJP )

Sangam Vihar is one of the 70 assembly constituencies of Delhi. Dinesh Mohaniya (AAP) has won the Assembly election 2015, got 72,131 votes against Shiv Charan Lal Gupta of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) who has 28,143 votes.

Votes polled on Feb 7 and the results was announced on Feb 10, 2015.

Dinesh Mohaniya of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is the incumbent MLA from the Sangam Vihar assembly seat which he won in 2013 by defeating his nearest BJP rival and sitting MLA Shiv Charan Lal Gupta by a narrow margin of 777 votes. In that election to the constituency, which came into being before the 2008 assembly polls following the recommendation of the delimitation commission, while Dinesh Mohaniya polled 24851 votes, Shiv Charan Lal Gupta, popularly known as S C L Gupta, received 24074 votes.

In that election, Jag Parvesh, son of former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar, contested on the ticket of the Congress and came third with 16435 votes. He was followed by Vir Singh of Mayawati led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) with 9850 votes. In the previous assembly elections held in 2008, the BSP candidate Ranjit Singh had received 11687 votes to be placed third. Vir Singh had entered the fray as a nominee of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in 2008.

In 2013, Shish Pal Singh, who contested the Sangam Vihar assembly seat on the ticket of Janata Dal (united), finished fifth by securing 9010 votes. Earlier Shish Pal Singh, a party-hopper, had emerged victorious from the Tughlakabad assembly seat in 1993 and 1998. While he win in 1993 came as an Independent candidate, he won as a Congress candidate in 1998. In 2003, he contested the Tughlakabad seat to become runner up as an Independent. In that election he lost to Ramesh Bidhuri of the BJP. Vir Singh, then a Congress nominee, came third. In the next assembly elections, Shish Pal Singh was the Congress nominee.

In 2008, Sangam Vihar assembly seat was won by S C L Gupta by defeating former Delhi police official Amod Kumar Kanth by a margin of 3589 votes. Whereas S C L Gupta polled 20332 votes, Amod Kumar Kanth, who was in the fray as a candidate of the Congress, secured 16743 votes.

Sangam Vihar is one of the ten assembly constituencies that unite to form the Lok Sabha constituency of East Delhi which is currently represented by Ramesh Bidhuri of the BJP who won the seat by defeating his nearest AAP rival Devender Sehrawat by 1,07,000 votes in the last parliamentary elections in 2014.
