Manipur Legislative Assembly Election 2017

Elections to the 60 seats in Manipur Assembly election are going to be held by two phases on Mar 8 and Mar 11 2017. Vote counting will be on March 11, 2017.

The major political parties in the state are the Indian National Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party, Manipur National Conference, and the Communist party of India. INC won the last assembly elections in 2012 and formed the Government.

The number of voters in Manipur is 17,41,581. Manipur is one of the few states with a 97% coverage of photo electoral rolls.

The total population of Manipur is 2,721,756. Among them urban population is 822,132 and rural 1,899,624. The total number of voters in Manipur is; 1,736,251, of which 836,499 are male and 899,752 are female. The sex ratio of the state is 992 females for every 1000 males.

Manipur is located in the North-Eastern region of India. It shares its border with Nagaland, Mizoram and Burma and has total area of 22,327 sq km. It comprises of nine districts. Its capital city is Imphal. Manipuri and English along with 29 other dialects are spoken in the state.
