There are two Lok Sabha constituencies in Meghalaya: Shillong and Tura. Both the constituencies are reserved for the Schedule Tribes.

The total number of voters in Meghalya is 15, 53,028, among which 7, 83,270 are male and 7, 83,270 are female.

In Meghalaya about 55,423 voters are newly enrolled, among which 29,519 are male and 25,904 are female. Three tribes that play an important role in Meghalaya's politics are Garo, Jaintia, and Khasi.

The Indian National Congress (INC), the National Peoples' Party (NPP), the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), the Hill State People's Democratic Party (HSPDP), and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are the major parties here.

Opinion poll by India TV says both the INC and the NPP will win one parliamentary constituency each from Meghalaya.

The Lok Sabha election in Meghalaya will be held on 9 April 2014. This is the first time when the VVPAT or Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail will be used in Meghalaya (only Tura constituency).
