Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic party was formed after six-year-long Assam Movement, which was led by the All Assam Students Union (AASU) and the All Assam Gana Sangram Parishad (AAGSP) on the issue to free Assam of several million unlawful infiltrators from across the borders.

Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Party, popularly known as JKPDP is a regional political party in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Party has mass dominance in J& K state only. JKPDP was formed by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in 1999 who remained the former Union Home Minister in the government of V.P. Singh Jan Morcha. A previous member of the Indian National Congress, Sayeed broke the relationship with the Congress and joined hands with Jan Morcha in 1989. After some time, he again united with the Congress which he eventually quit to form the JKPDP, along with his daughter Mehbooba Mufti in July 1999. The election symbol of this political party as accepted by election commission is Ink Pot & Pen.

Present leader is N. Rangasamy. N. Rangasamy was the Chief Minister of Puducherry for 7 years during the period of 2001- 2008 and he made great contribution for the development of state and welfare of people that's why this period was called the golden era in the record of Puducherry. In his regime, he implemented novel strategies for the interests of Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe & Yanam people. He was honoured as a best chief minister for continuous 3 years by a National Newspaper (India Today).

Top leaders of JKPDP

The leaders of the JKPDP also represent the national executives of the party. The most prominent leader is Mufti Mohammad Sayeed who is creator and Chief supporter of the JKPDP. He ruled as a Chief Minister of the state of J&K in 2002. He has served several terms as MP and MLA. These days he is the Chief benefactor of the party, takes major party decisions to maintainpolitical harmony and attempts to resolve the Kashmir issue. Mehbooba Mufti is the president of JKPDP. She is the daughter of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and engaged in party's political activities. Mehbooba took over the charge of her father as President of the JKPDP. She was a member of the 14th Lok Sabha, representing the Anantnag constituency of J&K. She also remained a leader of opposition in the J&K Vidhan Sabha during Farooq Abdullah's supremacy as Chief Minister of the state in 1990s.MolviIftikhar Ansari is Vice-President of JKPDP. He is a Kashmiri Shia cleric, and a Member of Parliament of the state legislative assembly in J&K, and represents the Pattan constituency in J&K. He was also the CM of J&K from November 2002 to November 2005.SardarRangeel Singh is Vice-President of JKPDP. Mohammad Dilawar Mir is general Secretary of JKPDP. Thakur Balbir Singh is general Secretary of JKPDP. Dr. Sameer Koul is National Spokesperson of JKPDP.

Ideology of party

The party has basic principles of self-rule. Party believes that self-rule as a political philosophy as opposed to autonomy to empower populace of Jammu and Kashmir. Self-rule is a formulation that willincorporate the province without disturbing the existingruler authority over delimited territorial space. Self-rule policy is effectual and doesnot harm the worth of the line of control as defensive divisions but counteracts its acquired and ascribedmanifestations of state competition for power, prestige, or an imagined historical individuality. This ideology is a way of sharing control, without need or promise to political merging. It is based on the formation of pioneeringinternational institutional arrangements that have a political,economic and safety nature. Self-rule includes the society, the state, and the economy. Self-rule, being a trans-border idea, has a pan-Kashmir aspectas well as seeks to regionalise power across J&K. Self-rule as a political beliefs is being expressedin the formation of federalism and confederation that permitto sharepower between two levels of government, for the sharing of dominion in a harmonized way.

Main Objectives of the party

In present political scenario, it is necessary to mobilize public opinion in the State and the nation. Party must adopt a policy of understanding and reconciliation and begin a comprehensive and unconditional conversation with the people of Kashmir to solve the Kashmir problem.

The intent of party is to express the complaints of the people of the State and seek their redresser through constitutional means, to wage a struggle for the restoration of normalcy, democracy and rule of law in the State so that human rights of the people can be duly respected and protected. Party has aim to explore ways and means to guarantee that innocent people languishing in jails are released, the migrants are brought back and rehabilitated and healing touch is administered to the victims of the violent chaos in the state, and assistance is provided to widows, orphans and other victims of violence. Party advocates formulation and implementation of proper policies for the devolution of powers and distribution of resources amongst the three regions of the State, equitable economic growth and advancement of understanding and co-operation amongst the various communities and regions. The other objective of party is to formulate and implement appropriate policies for the restoration and protection of environment in the State, universal education that would serve the needs of employment, economic and industrial growth, protect and modernize the horticulture and agriculture and minimum burden of taxes and tariffs. Party also takes initiative for the development of infra-structure, power, tourism and industries, offering an economic package of the State, industrial and tourism sectors, to recompense them for the loss and damage caused due to militancy during the last ten years, empowerment of women, weaker sections of society and formulation and execution of sufficient policies to eradicate unemployment and poverty in the State of J&K

Political success of the party

Jammu and Kashmir People's Democracy Party works as a regional political partyand work for the welfare of people and willing to resolve Kashmir issues. The JKPDP is major supporter to start a dialoguein order to stabilize the relation between India and Pakistan on the Kashmir issue. To settle this intricate issue, Party took numerous initiative andorganized number of Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) to espouse its objectives of integrating economic, social and political empowerment to a new land of J&K which would not be loaded with unjustified tensions over territoriality concerns.

In JKPDP regime, party made possible efforts to augment the economy of the state and revived the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad and Poonch-Rawalkote trade routes. It also opened the cross LoC trade route. The party invigorated the tourist trade in Kashmir which considerablyboosted the profits of the land. Party has executedseveral PWD projects, like engaging in a thousand crore initiative of the NUURM, preservation of the Dal Lake, restoration of historic sites of Shalimar gardens, Aali Masjid, Harparbat Fort, construction of flyover at Jehengir Chowk.

The JKPDP has begun education funds for the women and youth of the state. It has set up two universities, the Islamic University and Baba Ghulam Shah University, for rich education to be imparted to the youth in the state. Partyconvinced the Union government to enhance fund allocation to the state of J&K for development in the state.It also made policies for revival of tourism in 2003 that had significant impact on Kashmir and enhanced the economic status.

Party sanctioned the special package for tourism industry Rs.40 crore for hoteliers, houseboat owners and shikarawallas. Party also provided subsidy to taxi operators for up gradation of tourist transport. Party also supported in construction of international airport at Srinagar.

In the regime of JKPDP,Six lane of Bypass which is now the main artery of Srinagar city was constructed. Party also provided funds for reconstruction of bridges on the bypass, Ashaibagh, Nallah Amir Khan, Telbal etc.There were development in infrastructure and constructions of first ever fly over at Jehangir chowk. Another project is coming up at Hyderpora. There was up gradation of Airport road at a cost of Rs 10 crores.

In brief, JKPDP has accomplished major political mission in their rule and party's ideologies are effective to enhance the status of common people in the state.
