The Jammu & Kashmir National Conference is a state political party in the state of Jammu and Kashmir in India. This party was operated under the guidance of Sheikh Abdullah in 1947 at the time of Indian Independence. After that, Farooq Abdullah took charge of party and now it is led by Omar Abdullah, son of Farooq Abdullah. The party oversaw electoral politics in the state for several decades. The election symbol of this political party is Plough.

The previous name of the party was All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference in October 1932. It was formally established in June 11, 1939 under the leadership of Sheikh Abdullah and new name was given to party that was called All Jammu and Kashmir National Conference. Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, who was renowned politician during that time and recognized as the 'Lion of Kashmir', was elected the President of the JKNC in 1947.With the support of the first Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru, Sheikh Abdullah wanted to form a 'Naya Kashmir. In the post-independence era, JKN has ruled the state of Jammu and Kashmir autonomously for most of the period. Party was not in power during the periods between 1984-1987 and 2003-2008. Then it made collation with INC and gained success in the elections in 1997. In last state assembly elections held during December, 2008, JKNC party came up with majority and developed as single largest party by grabbing 28 seats. With post poll coalition with INC, JKNC took over the charge to rule in J&K under the headship of Omar Abdullah in 2009. In 2009 General Elections, JKNC contested the elections in alliance with Congress and won the three seats it contested.

Objectives of party

The prime objective of the party is to make all-round development and progress of Pondicherry and present this state as a model state in India. N.R Congress is attentive of its strengths and its responsibilities and it guarantee that every people of Puducherry (Pondicherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam) will be protected. Party has commitment to people that they will offer an excellent administration to prove admirable to the trust and confidence of the Puducherry populace.

The leaders of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, who represent as the national executives of the party, are many. Farooq Abdullah is the president of the JKNC. He is a doctor by occupation and remained the Chief Minister of the state of J&K many times earlier. He also worked as a Cabinet Minister of New and Renewable Energy in UPA government in the 2009. He represents the Srinagar-Budgam constituency in the 15thLok Sabha. Currently, he is the President of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association. Omar Abdullah, son of Farooq Abdullah is Working President of the JKNC and currently is a Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. He remained the President of JKNC from 2002 to 2009. Omar hold a post of a Union Minister of State for External Affairs during the JKNC alliance with the NDA. He remained a Member of Parliament, in the 14thLok Sabha.Mustafa Kamal is Additional General Secretary of JKNC. He is the brother of Farooq Abdullah. He has been Member of the Legislative Assembly in Jammu and Kashmir. Mehboob Beg is a Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha. Beg represents the Anantnag-Shopian constituency in the 15thLok Sabha. S.D. Sharik is Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha and represents the Baramulla-Kopwara constituency in the 15thLok Sabha. Mohammad Shafi Uri is Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha and also the chief spokesperson of the party.Ghulam NabiRatanpuri is a Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha.

The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference works at regional level and accomplished several political objectives. Party do not support the notion of developing any barrier between the two halves of the state of J&K. The JKNC always come forward to make negotiation to resolve the issues between India, Pakistan and the State of J&K and work for the growth of all the three regions. In this way, party respected minority rights.

JKNC enhanced the Panchayati Raj Institutions in the state and empower to lakhs of Kashmiri residents. Distribution of funds is made to the local administrations, such as the revenue department, food department etc., in order to ensure their smooth functioning.
