Janata Dal (Secular)

Janata Dal (Secular) is a recognised state party. The party has mass voters in the states of Karnataka and Kerala.

It was established in July 1999 by the split of Janata Dal party. It has a huge political presence in Karnataka. In Kerala, the party is part of the Left Democratic Front.

About Janata Dal (Secular)

    Janata Dal (Secular) History

Janata Dal (Secular) is a recognised state party. The party has mass voters in the states of Karnataka and Kerala. It was established in July 1999 by the split of Janata Dal party. It has a huge political presence in Karnataka. In Kerala, the party is part of the Left Democratic Front.The Election Symbol of the Janata Dal (Secular), as approved by the Election Commission of India, is "A Lady Farmer Carrying Paddy on her Head.

The Janata Dal (Secular) evolved from the Janata Party organized by Jayaprakash Narayan that combined all anti-Indira Gandhi parties under one flag for the 1977 national elections. Janata Dal was established in Bangalore with the unification of the Janata Party with smaller opposition parties in 1988. In 1996, the party reached its peak when Shri H.D. DeveGowda became Prime Minister of India and ruled with the United Front (UF) coalition government. Janata Dal divided in 1999 when some leaders left party to join with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance and established the Janata Dal (United) party. The party leadership was done by George Fernandes while H.D. Deve Gowda formed Janata Dal (Secular) and headed the party. In the 2004 elections in Karnataka Janata Dal (Secular) ruled in the state. Afterwards, party leader H. D. Kumaraswamy headed a popular partnership government in the state for 20 months.

Kunwar Danish Ali is National Secretary General of Janata Dal (Secular).

Ideology of party

The basic philosophy of The Janata Dal (Secular) party is that all people needs to be united and that everyone gets equal opportunities, to develop strong state and nation. There is no discrimination, when everyone contributes their due to the country and land. Party's leaders are committed to build a community that lasts, helps everyone and the country. Main focus of the Janata Dal (Secular) party is education, Health Care, Job Creation, Farmer Rights, Equal Opportunities to all populace.The JD (S) believes in representing the true values of Gandhian socialism and the rich heritage of the freedom struggle of India.

Political success of JD (S):

Janata Dal (Secular) is known as regional party and it has major achievements in political scenario. The Janata Dal (Secular) has array of frontal organizations under its flag. Its student wing called the Student Janata Dal, its youth wing called Yuva Janata Dal and its women's wing called the Mahila Janata Dal have contributed greatly to the cause of these particular sections of the society. The JD (S) works for farmers and waived of interest on loans to farmers who had cleared the principal amount to benefit the farmers in the states of Karnataka and Kerala. The JD (S) also provided 10 hours uninterrupted power supply to the farmers in these states, so that they could carry out the irrigation process at ease.

The Janata Dal (Secular) begun a National Agro Policy, which was pro-farmers and pro-rural in approach. Janata Dal revived the 'Green Card' scheme for the urban and rural people below the poverty line. These people get benefited by getting ration at a cheaper price of Rs. 3.25 per kg. The Janata Dal (Secular) Government, when in power, issued Green Card to 65 lakh families.

In the tenure of post of Prime Minister of India, DeveGowda attended many forums of international trade and development such as the Forum of International Economists in 1995, and guaranteed much foreign investments in the country at that time to augment the political and economic condition of trade and commerce in nation.

Deve Gowda was greatly successful to complete the "Krishna Jalabhagya Nigama" or the Krishna River Project. This project was huge challenge for the Janata Dal (Secular) as the river Krishna is in the centreof Karnataka. As the prime minister, Gowda provided rupees 122 crores for the development of the project. The Government further approved to invest rupees 252 crores for the project. For the A.I.B.P (Accelerated Irrigation Benefit programme) on the Krishna River, 130 crores was given for the development. For election 2014, Janata Dal (Secular) is having difficulty to find candidates for each one of the 28 Lok Sabha constituencies.
