Janata Dal (Secular) is a Centre-left Indian political party headed by former Prime Minister of India H.D. Deve Gowda. The party is known as a state party in the states of Karnataka and Kerala.

It reveals true faith and allegiance to the Constitution of India as by law established, and to the beliefs of socialism, secularism and democracy, and supports the power, unity and integrity of India.

Janata Dal (Secular) is a Centre-left Indian political party headed by former Prime Minister of India H.D. Deve Gowda. The party is known as a state party in the states of Karnataka and Kerala. It reveals true faith and allegiance to the Constitution of India as by law established, and to the beliefs of socialism, secularism and democracy, and supports the power, unity and integrity of India. This party is committed to maintain to develop a democratic, secular and socialist State of India that is based on the philosophy of Gandhi ji. It also got motivation from Indian rich inheritance and the dignifiedcustoms of struggle for national sovereignty and individual autonomy. Janata Dal (Secular) Party considers in a policy that ensures decentralization of financial and political power. It avows the right of nonviolent and democratic dissent, which includes Satyagraha or non-violent resistance Janata Dal (Secular). The election symbol of this party is a lady farmer carrying paddy on her head. Its political position is centre-left and works on the principles of Social Democratic Secularism. The Janata Dal (Secular) has major voter base in the states of Karnataka and Kerala.It is a well-known part of the Left Democratic Front in Kerala.

Janata Dal (Secular) was established in July 1999 after separating from Janata Dal party.Party was split as after tension when Chief Minister J.H. Patel of that time lent support to the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The JD (S) moved according to the Janata Party, which was led by the brilliancy of Jayaprakash Narayan, the strong who united all anti-Congress parties during the despotic rule of Indira Gandhi during her supremacy as Prime Minister. The Janata Dal (Secular) took its inheritance from the Janata Party and has great respect for Jayaprakash Narayan as their supremeidyllicmonarch. Consequently, H.D. Deve Gowda did not support the strategies and schemes of the BJP as well as he was not willing to make coalition with the Congress from its inception.

The Karnataka Assembly elections in 2004 rejuvenated the affluences of JD (S), when it made an association with the ruling government in the state. The JD (S) believes in developing a socialist, secular, democratic Republic of India, where all peoplewill have liberty and live life safelyand there is no social or political favouritism. Currently, the JD (S) considered the Congress a slighterbad than the BJP in following foundation principles of secularism and centre-left politics. The JD (S) hasacoalition with the Congress for a short period but they separated due to numerous controversies developed between them. For the future general elections in 2014, the JD (Secular) is powerfully opposed to the collectivism of the BJP as well as it also raised voice for augmenting corruption and scams under the present Congress government. The JD (Secular) in its establishment concentrates the issues of education, health care, employment, farmer rights and privileges and equal opportunities to all. Party supports the beliefs of decentralized economic and political power and opposed to the notion of a theocratic state.

Top leaders of the party are as follows:

Haradanahalli Doddegowda DeveGowda is the President of the JD (S). He is the 14th former Prime Minister of India and founder of the JD (S). He has also remained a former Chief Minister of Karnataka. Gowda is a strong supporter of the cause of farmers, earning himself the name "Manninamaga" or son of the soil. He is presently a Member of Parliament of the 15th Lok Sabha. He is also current Member of the Committee on Defence.N.M. Joseph is Vice President of JD (S). He has remained an MLA of the 8th Karnataka Legislative Assembly. He was also in-charge of the Ministry of Forests. Kunwar Danish Ali is Secretary General of JD (S). He worked as MLA in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. Neela Lohitha Dasan Nadar is General Secretary of JD (S) and a famous lawyer by profession and holds the post an MLA in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. He held the portfolio of Law, Electricity, Irrigation, Labour and Housing. He is a former Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha.Sripat Rao Shinde is General Secretary of JD (S). C. Balaramanis General Secretary of JD (S). Zafar Ullah Khan is General Secretary of JD (S). Kuldeep Singh Rana is General Secretary of JD (S). David Simeon is Secretary of JD (S). Devender Nath Ambedkar is Secretary of JD (S). SheelaNaik is Secretary of JD (S). Rama Shankar Singh is Secretary of JD (S).

Political success of JD (Secular):

The JD (S) is a regional party and it contributed a lot for the citizens. The Janata Dal (Secular) has established numerous frontal organizations under its poster. Its student wing called the Student Janata Dal, its youth wing called Yuva Janata Dal and its women's wing called the Mahila Janata Dal have contributed greatly to the cause of these particular sections of the society.

Party has made revolutionary step to benefit the farmers in the states of Karnataka and Kerala.The JD (Secular) waived of interest on loans to farmers who had cleared the principal amount. The JD (S) also provided 10 hours continuous power supply to the farmers in these states, so that they can smoothly complete the irrigation process.

The Janata Dal (Secular) began a National Agro Policy, which was pro-farmers and pro-rural in approach. Janata Dal fulfilled its promise to revive the 'Green Card' scheme for the urban and rural people those are below the poverty line. These people benefited by getting ration at a cheaper price of Rs. 3.25 per kg. In the regime of the Janata Dal (Secular) Government, Green Card was issued to 65 lakh families. These were major activities of party for the enhancement of people.

When Deve Gowda held the post of Prime Minister of India, he attended many forums of international trade and development such as the Forum of International Economists in 1995, and guaranteed much foreign investments in the nationduring that time. These significant steps helped in improving the political and economic status of trade and commerce in India.

DeveGowda has got huge triumph in completing the "Krishna Jalabhagya Nigama" or the Krishna River Project. This was a major challenge for the party as the river Krishna is in the centre of Karnataka. During his regime, Gowda sanctioned rupees 122 crores for the development of the project. The Government additionally decided to provide rupees 252 crores for the project. For the A.I.B.P (Accelerated Irrigation Benefit programme) on the Krishna River, 130 crores was sanctioned for the development.
