Kerala Congress

Kerala Congress (M) is a regional political party in the state of Kerala in India.

This party mainly focuses on some special group of society such as working class populations, farmers and peasants of the state. The party adopted the political principles of Secular Democracy and Toiling Class Theory.

It can be said that the Kerala Congress (M) brings together non-communal forces, but fights for the human rights and civil liberties of the 'toiling classes' in Kerala, such as the farmers, agricultural peasants and employee group. Kerala Congress (M) is a regional political party in the state of Kerala in India. This party mainly focuses on some special group of society such as working class populations, farmers and peasants of the state. The party adopted the political principles of Secular Democracy and Toiling Class Theory. It can be said that the Kerala Congress (M) brings together non-communal forces, but fights for the human rights and civil liberties of the 'toiling classes' in Kerala, such as the farmers, agricultural peasants and employee group. The Kerala Congress (M) slants towards redressing the miserable conditions of the working-class of the state and party makes extreme efforts to shield their interests. The members of the Kerala Congress (M) work hard with the workforce, peasants, trade unions and labourers, for the struggle against imperialist forces.The Election symbol of the Kerala Congress (M), as accepted by the Election Commission of India, is "Two Leaves".

Kerala Congress (M) was established in 1979 after separating from the Kerala Congress. The prominent leader and chairman is K. M. Mani who held the post of the minister for finance, law and housing inGovernment of Kerala. Its working chairman is P J Joseph. In 2011, the party had 9 MLAs in the State Legislative Assembly, two members in Parliament (Jose K Mani)(loksabha) and Joy Abraham(Rajyasabha) and an alliance member of the United Democratic Front(in Kerala) and United Progressive Alliance (In central).

On April 30, 2010 an additional Kerala Congress groupheaded by P. J. Joseph, which was a part of Left Democratic Front made a decision to abscond LDF and unite with KC(M) to form a single united Kerala Congress. For the Kerala Assembly election, the united groups would be contesting under the banner and symbol of Kerala Congress (M) as directed by the election commission. Currently, the Kerala Congress (M) is the second major party after the Congress, in the coalition with United Democratic Front (UDF). The UDF which played a role of the main opposition to the LDF formed the government in Kerala, after its conquest over LDF in the 2011 Assembly elections.

Top leaders of the Kerala Congress (M):

The leaders of the united Kerala Congress (M) are also the national executives of the party. Karingozhakkal Mani Mani (K.M. Mani) is chairperson of Kerala Congress (M). He has remained the Finance Minister of the Kerala government, for the longest term. He hasgood repute to serve as the longest Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Kerala and he constantly represented the Palai constituency from its beginning in 1965. Presently, he is the Minister of Finance, Law and Housing in the UDF government in Kerala.P.J. Joseph is working Chairman of Kerala Congress (M). He is anexperienced politician in Kerala, an MLA in the 2011 Kerala Assembly, representing the Thodupuzha constituency. He is currently the Minister for Water Resources, Irrigation and Inland Navigation in the UDF government. He is the originator of the Gandhi Centre for Sustainable Development, and the Gandhiji Studies Centre. These centres work for the enhancement of the deprived group of the society such as women, farmers, children from unprivileged communities. He guarantees for their sustained development.C.F. Thomas is Deputy Chairman of Kerala Congress (M) and he is an MLA in Kerala, representing the Changanaserry Assembly constituency. P.C. George is Vice Chairman of Kerala Congress (M). He was the initiator of the break-away group Kerala Congress (Secular), which has now amalgamated with the Kerala Congress (M). He is a sixth-time MLA in the Kerala Assembly, representing the Poonjar constituency of the Kottayam district. He is currently the Chief Whip of the UDF government.Jose K. Mani is leader in Lok Sabha. He is the son of K.M. Mani and is a Member of the Lok Sabha Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture. He represents the Kottayam district.Joy Abraham is leader in Rajya Sabha and represents Kerala in the Upper House of Parliament.P.C. Georgeis Kerala Congress (M) vice-chairman.

Political activities and success of the Party:

The Kerala Congress (M) party emerged as regional party and it has accomplished many political goals through dedication and effectual policies. The Kerala Congress (M) has numerous frontal organizationsunder its flag. Its student wing which has authoritarian presence in many colleges in Kerala is called Kerala Student Congress (M) or KSC (M). Its youth wing is called Kerala Youth Front (M) or KYF (M).Most importantly, its labour wing, Kerala Trade Union Congress (M) or KTUC (M), has held a number of significant rallies and demonstrations for the demand of rights for the peasants, farmers as well as the working class in general.

Kerala Congress (M) also runs the 'Prathichaya Weekly' newspaper that is popular among the people of Kerala. Its columns speak for the demands of the toiling classes of the society in the state. It is a prominent newspaper, supporting the constitutional rights of the browbeaten group of society. The Kerala Congress (M) has begun organic farming in the state, such as to guarantee sustainable growth for the farmers in rural Kerala. Furthermore, Kerala Congress (M) party has commitment to people of Kerala for astabledevelopmentin arena of education, IT industry, and infrastructural developmentsincluding waste management in the state.
