About Naga People Front

   Naga People Front History

The Naga People's Front is a regional political party of India and it has mass presence in Nagaland and Manipur, India. The NPF operates along the political beliefs of Regionalism, abiding by the principles of democratic system and fraternity as practised in the state of Nagaland. Simultaneously, the Naga People's Front guarantees the safeguarding of traditions and culture of the Naga populace, which are exceptional to the ethnic races of the state. The NPF is one of the most famous political groups in the state to demand undying solution to the Indo-Naga political solution. The Election Symbol of the Nagaland People's Front, as accepted by the Election Commission of India, is "Cock".

Netaji was dedicated for the wellbeing of society. He resigned from the post of the President of Indian National Congress in April 1939 and promised to establish a new political party that can advocate its strong fight against colonial imperialism and dominance. A rally was held in Calcutta and youth group came forward to sign a vow, under the wise management of Netaji. The party was officially established on 3rd May, 1939. On the 22nd of June, 1939, the All India Forward Bloc organized its first conference in Bombay, where the Constitution and program of the Forward Bloc was planned. The Central Committee of the All India Forward Bloc was formally announced about one month in July. Subhas Chandra Bose became the President, Lal Shankarlal its General Secretary and S.S. Cavesheer from Punjab was chosen the Vice-President of AIFB. The Nagpur Conference of the party, held from 18-22 June 1940, and it was considered as a significant period in the AIFB. Bose, as the President of the political party, resolved to win Purna Swaraj or complete independence for India by starting some tangible plans. Party took numerous initiatives to form a national unity among all sections of the Indian society. Propinquity was felt to organize the development of Panchayats, as media of struggle and organs of administration, right from the village level to the centre.

Party has leadership position in the Nagaland government with the Bharatiya Janata Party, as part of the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland since 2003. Dr. Shürhozelie is the president of the party. The chief leader of the NPF, Neiphiu Rio, is the state's Chief Minister. On March 22, 2004 the NPF merged with the Nagaland Democratic Party. Although the Naga People's Front has local agreements with the NDA, it does not hold up either the NDA or the UPA in the central government where it has 1 MP in the Lok Sabha. Presently, the Nagaland People's Front is running the government in the state after winning the Assembly elections in the start of 2013 for the third consecutive term. Party has got great acceptance by people of state. The NPF unusually won a majority of seats, bagging 37 out of the 60 constituency seats in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly. The Congress is the main opposition to the NPF in the state. Its performance was poor in the last assembly elections. The Nagaland People's Front has one Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha.

Top leaders of the Party

The leaders of the Nagaland People's Front are also the national executives of the party. Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu is Chairperson of the NPF. He is the President of the Nagaland People's Front, and has remained a member of the Legislative Assembly of Nagaland in the 2003 and 2008 elections. He represented the Scheduled Tribe-reserved Northern Angami-I constituency. He remained the Minister of Urban Development for both the 2003 and 2008 terms when the NPF was in power, respectively. He is presently the cabinet minister, holding post as Chairman of the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) in Nagaland. Kru Zakie is General Secretary of NPF and remained the party general secretary for a long duration. He is also the national spokesperson of the Nagaland People's Front. Neiphiu Rio is Chief Minister of Nagaland from the NP. He is the most accepted leader of the NPF. He is the only Chief Minister in the state to have remained in power for three consecutive terms, winning pounding votes in 2003, 2008 and 2013, correspondingly. He was honoured with the Mother Teresa Millennium Award for excellent contribution to politics. C.M. Chang was Leader in Lok Sabha (till February 2013). Chang resigned as Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha in 2013, after he was chosen as an MLA in the 2013 assembly elections. He represents the Noksen assembly constituency in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.

The major goal of the Naga Peoples Front is to reinstate the Naga society and its honesty and independence among all the other people. Party is committed to bring a particular individuality to the Naga people in order to make them eminent to others. Another motive of the party is to fight and work hard for the electoral and political improvement in the state principally among the people of Naga sect and to bring about political as well as economic growth in this arena. Party is dedicated to enhance the status of Nagas and bring prosperity. The aim of party is to eradicate corruption and immorality and disturbance. Naga Peoples Front dedicatedly works to unite and incorporate all the disjointed members of Naga tribe in order to safeguard their genetic resemblance and independence. Party provides a better administration to the people.

In the state of Nagaland, both the ruling Naga Peoples Front and the opposition party UPA supported Pranab Mukherjee during the Presidential election in 2012. Mr. Mukherjee held a meeting with Neiphiu Rio and DAN legislators in Dimapur where NPF leaders officially authorized their support. NPF's main opposition in the legislative assembly is the Indian National Congress party.

Success of the NPF:

NPF is regional political party with great ideology. It made important contribution in political area to uplift Naga people. The NPF administration most decisively attempts to resolve economic inequality between the diverse ethnic groups in Nagaland because this is the major concern, and conflicts between populace of state. The NPF devised effectual schemes to unify the state and its people under one administrative and economic slab. The NPF's effective strategies convinced to Naga rebels to end their factional fights which split apart the state. The NPF government has a major attainment in reducing corruption of the ministers, which makes administration in the state peaceable and devoid of dirty politics. The NPF has addressed to the cause of resolving the Indo-Naga political crisis between the state of Nagaland and the Indian Government, by negotiating calm talks with the Indian Government and abiding by its Rule of Law.

The party gained reputation in the state through its strong-minded non-violent attempt to bring about social and electoral improvement in the state, and ease the people of the deterioration that has affected them. Through its wise management, the NPF has tried to concentrate on the critical concerns of the Nagas, which in turn has restored the spirit of self-reliance and self-confidence in the populace.
