Nationalist Congress Party

The Nationalist Congress Party NCP is a national political party with base in Maharashtra.

It was formed when three of its leaders, Sharad Pawar, P.A. Sangma and Tariq Anwar were expelled from the Indian National Congress, for questioning Sonia Gandhi's leadership on 25th May 1999.

About Nationalist Congress Party

    Nationalist Congress Party History

INCThe Nationalist Congress Party NCP is a national political party with base in Maharashtra. It was formed when three of its leaders, Sharad Pawar, P.A. Sangma and Tariq Anwar were expelled from the Indian National Congress, for questioning Sonia Gandhi's leadership on 25th May 1999. These three leaders went on to form the Nationalist Congress Party and Sharad Pawar became its President and P.A Sangma and Tariq Anwar its General Secretaries. The party symbol is an analogue clock that reads 10:10.

NCP is a centre-left political party, that adhere to the ideals of the Congress stalwarts such as; Dadabhai Naoroji, Lokmaniya Tilak, Jawaharlal Nehru, Annie Besant, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and others.

The NCP symbolizes the thoughts and concerns of the common man and professes to speak on behalf of the ordinary people.

Top leaders of NCP

The prominent leaders of the NCP are Sharad Pawar, Tariq Anwar, P.A. Sangma, Praful Patel and others.

Tariq Anwar is General Secretary and also the Founder President of 'Jan Astha' and 'All India QuamiTanzeem', a registered social organizations working for the poor in the country.

P.A. Sangma the general secretary of the NCP was Lok Sabha Speaker from 1996 to 1998. He is associated with the Red Cross Society and Youth Hostels Association etc. He has set up night schools for the underprivileged children.

Praful Patel represents NCP from the Bhandara-Gondia Parliamentary constituency in the Lok Sabha. He is the owner of CeeJay Group, the biggest bidi-making company in western India.

Ideologies of Party

The NCP aspires to build democratic secular society with equality, social justice and unity of the country. It believes in strengthening federalism and decentralizing power. NCP strives to empower the weaker sections of the society, particularly the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and OBCs. NCP is flagging the agenda for the reservations for Marathas and Muslims. NCP also aspires to end unemployment, starvation, communalism. NCP believe in a government that is free from corruption.

NCP believes that any person of foreign origin cannot hold any party post in the country. It is on this issue that its top leaders brokeaway from the Indian National Congress.

The NCP has numerous organizations such as Nationalist Youth Congress, Nationalist Kisan Sabha, Rashtrawadi Yuvati Congress, Nationalist Student Congress, Nationalist Mahila Congress etc.

In the 2014 General Elections, NCP leader Sharad Pawar has hinted not to contest the Lok Sabha elections. He however may like to be the member of the Rajya Sabha. In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, the NCP wants to give tickets to new candidates who have been working for the party for a long time.
