Paattali Makkal Katchi is a regional political party in Tamil and abbreviated as PMK. Political symbol of party is Mango.

TMK was set up by S. Ramdoss who had experience in political arena with the Vanniyar Sangham founded by him in 1980. PMK is based amongst the Vanniyar community. PMK has advocated the split of the state of Tamil Nadu, a proposal that was seen as a cattiest line as PMK is stronger in the northern half of the Tamil Nadu State where it had approximately 40% of the vote bank specifically the Vanniyars. Paattali Makkal Katchi had collaborated with the broad Tamil political front Democratic Progressive Alliance before the 2004 election.When the 2004 election was established under the wise leadership of Ramadoss, Party got a significant share of power both in the regional government in Tamil Nadu and in the central government, mainly due to alliance pressures and arm twisting tactics. Anbumani Ramadoss, the son of S. Ramadoss, was the member of Rajya Sabha in the government of India. In subsequent the 2004 general election Lok Sabha, party shacked hand with United Progressive Alliance. In June 2008, the relationship between DMK and PMK worsen and the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in Tamil Nadu made alliance with the Pattali Makkal Katchi, an outside supporter of the Karunanidhi government. On 26 March 2009,Pattali Makkal Katchi declared that it will ally with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam led front and left the United Progressive Alliance. With this relationship, the two ministers in union cabinet A. Ramadoss and R. Velu resigned from the UPA government. AK Moorthy the first candidate of Pattali Makkal Katchi also a minister of state for railways in the Government of India. In 2012, S. Ramadoss appointed Mohamed Amukurajuddin, a prominent businessman from Chennai as the leader of PMK's minority wing.

Ideologies and objectives of party:

ThePattali Makkal Katchi works on the political beliefs of Social democratic system and Populism. Its regional plea is the concept of fulfilling the interests of the people in Tamil Nadu. It focuses on the poor sections of the inhabitants such as peasants, workers and the middle-class in general. The PattaliMakkalKatchi is committed to meet out the demands of the Vanniyar community in Tamil Nadu, which is the single largest community in the state. The PMK assures to finish Dravidian rule in the south of India by expanding its base in the state. The President of the party is G.K. Mani.

S. Ramadoss is an important leader of the party. He is founder-Leader of PMK. He wisely maintained the harmony and basic strength of the party, and had a significant ally in both regional and national level politics in the nation. Ramadoss was formerly associated with the Vanniyar Sangam or Vanniyar Union. G.K. Mani is president of party. Mohamed Amukurajuddin is leader of minority wing of party. Anbumani Ramadoss is former Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha. He is the son of S. Ramadoss and former Union Minister of Health. He is recognized as able leader in the PasumaiThayagam (Green Motherland) Movement, which has found wide appreciation among the people of the land. NT Shanmugam is former Minister of State for Food Processing Industries and he was a member of the Lok Sabha from the Vellore constituency in Tamil Nadu in the 1998-99 elections. A.K. Moorthy is former Union Minister. Moorthy represented the Chengalpattu constituency of Tamil Nadu as a Member of Parliament of the 14th Lok Sabha. RangasamyVelu is former Union Minister of Railways. He was a member of the 14th Lok Sabha, representing the Arakkonam constituency of Tamil Nadu. He remained in the Railway Ministry from 2004 to 2009.

Political success of the Party:

The Pattali Makkal Katchi party basically focused on region of Tamil Nadu and contributes a lot for the welfare of citizens. The Pattali Makkal Katchi has numerous frontal mass organizations such as the PMK Minority Wing, the PMK Youth Wing and the PMK Students Federation. One of the most extraordinary contributions of the party is in its Union Minister's efforts to progress the rural healthcare facilities of people across the nation, especially women and children. Anbumani Ramadoss as a Health Minister formed the famous National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) in 2005. This government brought huge development to the rural people who are poor. With these efforts, poor communities got better medical facilities and proper treatments.

Ramadoss has also contributed in the field of the anti-tobacco campaigns and he made extreme efforts to launch campaign against the sale of tobacco mandatory in television or in movies. As a Health Minister, he executed strict measures to control sale of tobacco and alcohol in the country. His strong support banned the drinking and smoking of alcohol and tobacco, or their respective advertisements in and around educational institutes in the interest of the public.
