Sikkim Democratic Front

Sikkim Democratic Front is a regional political party in the state of Sikkim, India.

Party has dominance in north-eastern state of Sikkim in India. The party was established by Pawan Kumar Chamling in 1993. It has ruled the state since 1994 with Pawan Kumar Chamling as the chief minister. The party marked its position by sweeping the 1999 and 2004 state elections.

It won 31 of the 32 assembly seats in the 2004 election. In the 2009 assembly election, the party grabbed all 32 seats. It also retained the lone Lok Sabha seat. The Election Symbol of this political party is umbrella. .....

Sikkim Democratic Front is a regional political party in the state of Sikkim, India. Party has dominance in north-eastern state of Sikkim in India. The party was established by Pawan Kumar Chamling in 1993. It has ruled the state since 1994 with Pawan Kumar Chamling as the chief minister. The party marked its position by sweeping the 1999 and 2004 state elections. It won 31 of the 32 assembly seats in the 2004 election. In the 2009 assembly election, the party grabbed all 32 seats. It also retained the lone Lok Sabha seat. The Election Symbol of this political party is umbrella. Ideology of the party: The party’s main grounds of political work are on the political philosophy of Democratic Socialism, which adheres to the morality of reformist and evolutionary struggles towards collectivism in Sikkim, instead of any radical extremism. With ‘Son of Sikkim Policy’, party struggled for the interests of the Sikkim people in the state by upholding the people’s rights and privileges in the land. The Sikkim Democratic Front is the largest political party in the state of Sikkim that made extreme efforts to equalize the financial and social depravity of the people, to liquefy all internal tensions between the dissimilar ethnic groups in the state and to maintain communal concord between all parts of the society. Party ruled in the state because of disciplined workers and companions who are committed to the well-being of people, their progress and emancipation and make Sikkim new and wealthy. Party has vision that Sikkim must develop in all spheres. Revolutionary keenness, love and unbreakable relationship with the people will change Sikkim into a new and prosperous state.

Prominent leaders of the Sikkim Democratic Front:

There are many dedicated leaders of the Sikkim Democratic Front, who also represent as the national executives of the party. Pawan Kumar Chamling is founder-President of party. He is a social worker, political activist and writer. Chamling is the fifth Chief Minister of Sikkim and is ruling in the state for a successive four terms since 1994. He represents the Poklok Kamran constituency. He has been honoured with numerous awards for his great contribution in political movements and governance in Sikkim such as Greenest Chief Minister of India’ in 1998, ‘Chintan Purashkar’ in 1987, ‘Thekong Ambassador of Peace’ in 2010. Prem Das Rai is leader in Lok Sabha and famous leader of the SDF in the Lok Sabha, representing the Sikkim constituency. He is an eminent Member of Parliament, and the first who has high academic degree of IIT and IIM. He was honoured with the esteemed Eisenhower Fellowship from USA in 2002 for his extraordinary contributions to the enhancement of the fiscal status in Sikkim. Hishey Lachungpa is leader in Rajya Sabha and represents the Sikkim constituency in the Upper House of Parliament.

D.D. Bhutia is vice President of SDF. K.B. Chamling is Vice President of SDF. S.K. Pradhan is general Secretary of party. Smt. Nimthit Lepcha is general Secretary of SDF. D.B. Gurung is General Secretary of SDF. T.N. Sharma is general Secretary of SDF. Bhim Dahal is National Spokesperson cum Press Advisor of SDF. Amar Rai is publicity Secretary of SDF and C.B. Karki is Treasurer of party.

Political contribution of the Party:

As one of the important regional political parties, the Sikkim Democratic Front has made great achievements. Sikkim Democratic Front party has mass organizations such as Youth Front, Women's wing, and student front, labour front, scheduled tribe and caste welfare front to provide support to the different sections of the population in Sikkim. These organizations are highly structured in operations and functions to support the interests of the people. The Sikkim Democratic Front party has been exceptional in maintaining an insurgent-free state of Sikkim at a time when the problems of terrorism and rebellion were at peak in the country. Chamling had a good leadership in party that enabled the people to live in peaceful way and there is no anguish among the public of Sikkim.

The management of the Sikkim Democratic Front party guaranteed that diverse groups of the society in the state will be given justice and enable them to understand their rights and privileges. The SDF made the significant accomplishment of granting the OBC status to all Nepalese in the state. The party also provided the ST status to Limboo and Tamang society at the national level. The SDF opened up the old Silk Route, known as the Nathula Pass. Party has effective policies and it gained membership of the esteemed North-East Council.

Leaders of Sikkim Democratic Front party have basic objectives to follow the Indian constitution and law and to maintain integrity, sovereignty, equality of the nation. It intends to provide the people of Sikkim all benefits provided by government to enhance their level. Party struggles for the enhancement of educationally, socially and economically backward and under developed people. The main target of party is to maintain peace, tranquillity, harmony and satisfaction among all groups of society and bring wealth in the life of people.
