The Telugu Desam party is powerful regional political party in Andhra Pradesh. It is known to people as TDP. It is mainly popular among populace in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh in India. The Telugu Desam Party has a centre-left political status and guided by political ideologies of Populism, Regionalism and Social broadmindedness. The fundamental basis of Telugu Desam party is to struggle for injustice and develop a welfare state for the Telugus, based on minority welfare systems and social justice for one and all. The election symbol of the TDP is Bicycle and it is approved by election commission. It is generally drawn on a yellow-colored background. The color yellow portrays the TDP that has immense symbolism and indicate brightness, of prosperity, happiness and wealth. It also represents that TDP works on welfare policies and that results in happiness and wealth to the Telugu populace and all minority sections of the population in the Andhra Pradesh. In its party website, leaders have slogan, “Dare to dream strive to achieve.” The Bicycle election symbol signifies the movement of the party towards growth and development of the many sections of the state.

Historical background:

Telugu Desam party was established by Dr N T avatar Rao in 29th March, 1982that aimed to protect the political, economic, social and cultural foundations of telugu people within the country. Famous leader Nara Chandrababu Naidu led the party since 1995 in the Andhra Pradesh State Assembly. The headquarters of Telugu Desam party is situated at NTR Bhavan in the Banjara Hills locality of Hyderabad. In initial stage of nine months after its establishment in the 1983 Assembly elections, party took over charge in government, and developed the first non-Congress government in Andhra Pradesh. The Telugu Desam party has formed the government in Andhra Pradesh twice, from 1983-1989 and from 1994-2004. Nama Nageswara Rao was the leader of the Lok Sabha from the TDP and the Leader of the Rajya Sabha from the party was Tulla Devender Goud. For general elections in 2014, the Telugu Desam party who has political alliance with the BJP, is quite because there is split of the state that are heavily from other political groups in the state and these groups protested against the establishment of Telangana.

Top leaders of the Telugu Desam party:

The main leaders of the Telugu Desam Party work as national executives of the party are Nara Chandrababu Naidu, President of the TDP and Nama Nageswara Rao. Nara Chandrababu Naidu took charge as the 13th Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh when the TDP came to power in the state in 1994. He also works as the Leader of Opposition in the Andhra Pradesh Legislature. Naidu grabbed numerous awards owing to his development-oriented policies in the state that include IT Indian of the Millennium by India Today and Business Person of the Year’ by Economic Times. Another influential leader, Nama Nageswara Rao, is a member of the 15thLok Sabha, representing the Khammam constituency. Though he had founded the Nava Telangana Praja Party to fight for the establishment of the separate state of Telangana, he came out of the NTP and rejoined back the parent political group.

TDP encourage value added education system to develop bright future of citizens. Party leaders always encourage schemes that are aimed at empowerment of women. They have housing programs for rural and urban poor with subsidies and promotion of wage labor and input components.

TDP is committed to provide Rice at low price for two meals a day that are below poverty line families besides subsidized rates for essential commodities through National Public Distribution System. TDP wants electoral reforms, anti-defection law, exterminate black money in elections and corruption free India.TDP has vision in administrative reforms that is, to escort in e-governance to regulate and streamline rationings, pensions, scholarships, cheap loans to women, farmers and self-employed. The Telugu Desam party emerged as a strong regional political party in the state of Andhra Pradesh. In its political journey, it had great achievements. The TDP in its government power seriously worked for people and made huge development in the state of Andhra Pradesh in terms of the infrastructural initiatives taken by the Naidu government. These included construction of highways and bridges in the city of Hyderabad. The government also made huge investment for technical enhancement of Hyderabad and developed it into IT hub, providing jobs not only to the youth in Andhra Pradesh but also providing opportunities for people from other states. The Telugu Desam party has helped all-round development of the farmers through giving loans at minimum interest, electrification of the rural areas and providing low-priced water facilities and utmost technological modernism to improve the agricultural wealth in the state. Party has allocated equal budget for Muslim and Christian minorities in the state, so that both the communities enjoy overall economic, political and social development. Through the National Public Distribution System, TDP distributed cheap rice to Below Poverty Line families in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
